Warren W. Hunt

Our beloved, Warren William Hunt, went to his heavenly home on December 15, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family in Feasterville, Pa. He was 88.

Warren was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 1, 1934 to Viola (Schieber) Hunt and Joseph A. Hunt arriving 11 years after his older brother Joseph who he adored. He was not a healthy child and was doted on by his mother who would do anything to get him to gain weight even bringing milk shakes to the school play ground fence so that he would not be such a  “skinny article”.

He attended Lincoln High School, joined the Army Reserves, worked in the tool and die industry, was a gifted artist but found his passion as a Philadelphia Fire Fighter in 1959. After working at Engine 7 for many years he successfully competed to become one of the cities 9 fire boat pilots and spent the rest of his career fighting fires on the Philadelphia rivers.

He met he his one and only, Caroline A. Matelli on New Years Eve, 1951 at Concord Skating Rink in the city’s Mayfair section and when she told him she was not allowed to ride in his car he walked her home and walked back to the rink even though it was freezing. He knew immediately that she was the one. They were married May 14, 1955 and moved to a new home in Somerton where they met many of their lifelong friends.

Warren became an amazing, present and involved father with the births of his daughters JoAnn and Kimberlee. He got involved in all of the creative home work projects drawing beautiful book report covers and making spectacular shoebox dioramas. He was not allowed to help with spelling because he believed in spelling words just as they sound. At one time, he was on a mission to get phonetic spelling to catch on. He was popular in the classroom giving presentations in his fire fighting gear. He was loved in the neighborhood by all of the kids and many of his daughter’s friends would come to the house to see if he could “come out and play.” Everyone knew Mr. Hunt’s whistle which he would use to call his girls home for dinner. It could be heard daily at 5 PM.

There was nothing that Warren could not do.  He was the original DIYer. He built houses, landscaped properties, fixed cars, worked in stained glass, made and sold carousel horses. His creativity was limitless. He was the family historian and videographer. He loved his Pocono home, enjoyed snow and water skiing, boating, snowmobiling, loved roller coasters, race car driving, and gliding. He loved to travel and to tell stories, especially of crazy firehouse pranks.  He had a lot of stories. He was the life of the party, loved to have fun, talk like Donald Duck, tease children and dogs, negotiate a car deal for family and friends, give you a nick-name and wanted to share in the joy of everyone’s accomplishments.  He was generous with his time, talent and treasure.

Warren is survived by the light of his life, his wife of 67 years Carol, children JoAnn and Kenneth  Stracuzzi, Kimberlee and Marc Yampolski, grandchildren Kenny and Ashley Stracuzzi , Meredith and Josh Ranck, Lauren and Kevin Dysart, Valerie and Rich Johnson , and Jared Yampolski and great-grandchildren Ava, Tré, Cali, Cole, Carolina, Carter, Evangeline, Emily and Kevin and a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly called him Uncle Worm.

He was a man of faith becoming a follower of Jesus as a young man at a Billy Graham crusade and was passionate about sharing the ‘Good News” with everyone. He was bold in his desire that everyone know that Jesus loves them. His love for his Savior is helping his family  “grieve as those with hope”.  As a man of faith, Warren wished to have a celebration of the immortality promised to all by Christ.
