In Loving Memory of Shirley Jane Scearce (née Young) April 26, 1931 – July 3, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Shirley Jane Scearce—a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, treasured aunt, and dear friend. Shirley passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 26, 1931, Shirley lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet strength. She was the heart of her home and the foundation of her family—known for her gentle spirit, thoughtful guidance, and deep compassion for everyone she touched.
A woman of deep spiritual devotion, Shirley was an active member of her church, where her faith and kindness blessed countless lives. She found joy in serving her community and living out her beliefs through simple acts of love and grace.
An avid gardener, Shirley’s green thumb brought beauty to every corner of her garden and joy to her soul. But above all, she will be lovingly remembered for her baking—especially her legendary homemade cookies and coffee cakes. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, and her recipes were heartfelt expressions of her love.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Kathleen and Thomas Valentine, Alice and Daniel Comisky, Lynn and Daniel Cohen, Jean Scearce, and Paul and Julie Scearce. Her grandchildren: Nicole Jarrett and Brinley Geiger, Brian and Laura Jarrett, Kevin and Jerika Comisky, Jesse Cohen, Lily Scearce, Jack Scearce, Ried Scearce; and her great-granddaughter Emma.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis Taylor Scearce; her daughter, Diane Jane Paxton; and other cherished family members.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and quiet strength—one that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory lives on in the hearts of those she loved.
