Horsham, PA – Nancy R. Knott, 88, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, affectionately known to all as “Nanny,” passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on July 21, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Roland and Beatrice Harrison Randal, Nanny lived a vibrant life filled with love, adventure, and an unwavering commitment to family and animals.
Nanny grew up in Philadelphia, graduating from Stephens School in Germantown and Ambler High School. As a caring mother-figure, she nurtured not only her own children but countless others, earning the endearing name “Nanny.” Through drop-offs and pick-ups, packed lunches, and recitals, she was a steadfast presence in her grandchildren’s lives, loving them as a parent would. From childhood to adulthood, she was never without a four-legged friend, her love for animals a constant thread in her life. She also dedicated much of her career to caring for others, working in family businesses including Mermaid Lake and Twin Spring Farm Day Care, and serving as a compassionate caregiver for both children and the elderly.
A passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan, Nanny cheered through good times and bad, celebrating their two Super Bowl victories with unwavering loyalty. Her zest for life shone through in her adventures—flying in small planes, dog sledding, dancing, and traveling. Whether partying with friends in Avalon or finding peace at a religious retreat, Nanny was a true social butterfly who embraced every moment and connected deeply with people.
Nanny was predeceased by her sons, Randal E. Pepper and Scott W. Pepper; her sister, Irene Berardelli; her parents, Roland and Beatrice Randal; and her first husband, William E. Pepper III.
She is survived by her son, James E. Knott, and his wife, Janice (grandchild Melanie A. Knott, her husband Brad, and great-grandchild Arthur Hendricks); her daughter, Terri-Lee Knott (grandchild Jessica O’Mara and great-grandchildren Josephina and Jamison); her loving and caring sister, Beatrice Hood; grandchildren ( of son Scott Pepper), Jaqualyn Pepper, and Joshua Chance Pepper; and great-grandchildren Liam Chance, Devin Scottie, Paytin Denise, Nati, Chloe, Sage, and Harper.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 28, 2025, in lieu of a traditional church service. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may contact Terri-Lee Knott at nanknott8353@gmail.com for details.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Nanny’s memory to the Pennsylvania SPCA, a cause close to her heart, reflecting her lifelong love for animals.
Nanny’s infectious joy, boundless energy, devotion to her family, and love for her four-legged companions will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew
