Dr. John Wesley Tomlinson, Jr. died at Doylestown Hospital on November 4, 2024 at age 87. He is survived by his wife Joy (Dittmer) Tomlinson and was predeceased by his first wife, Carole Ann (Costello) Tomlinson as well as his mother, Joyce (Mellott) Tomlinson, and his father, J. Wesley Tomlinson Sr.
John is survived by his children: Jennifer Tomlinson Koontz (Mike), Sarah Tomlinson High (Jeff), John Tomlinson, III; Elizabeth Wartluft (Stevyn Travillian), Deborah Stack, Rebecca Knox (Bill), and Andrew Wartluft (Melissa Plaufcan) as well as grandchildren: Ashley, Christina, Ember, River, Roxanne, Gunnar, Kyle, Christopher, Ryan, Hannah, Ben, Jamie, Quinn; and great-granddaughter, Brooke. Also surviving are his brother, W. Michael Tomlinson (Madaline) and extended family.
John earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1952, graduated from Ursinus College in 1958, and earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical School in 1962, completing his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital. He served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and surgeon on the USS Repose during the Vietnam War before practicing in Everett, Washington and then in Doylestown, Pennsylvania where he was on the medical staff of Doylestown Hospital. He was a compassionate doctor and surgeon serving his community for over 40 years.
He was known for his love of gardening, fishing, scouting, his dedication to his patients, and his deep faith.
John was active in his church communities at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Everett and Doylestown Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, serving as an Elder, and participating in bible study.
John's memorial service will be held at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Court St., Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be directed to the Family Medicine Residency Program at Doylestown Hospital or Doylestown Presbyterian Church.
