Gayle Anne Ruggeri, 68, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 12, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia to Harry J. Ruggeri and Nancy J. Ruggeri (Sharkey), Gayle was a lifelong Philadelphian who built a life filled with family, friendship, professional accomplishment, travel, collecting, and the many interests she loved.

Gayle attended Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, where she earned degrees in Accounting and Data Systems Management. She had a long and accomplished professional career in information technology, project management, business operations, and management. Gayle was proud of her work and continually expanded her knowledge and expertise throughout her career. Her professional life gave her opportunities to travel throughout the country, train and work with others, and hold positions of increasing responsibility with organizations including the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Comcast, Arkema, the City of Philadelphia, and others.

Gayle loved living in the heart of Philadelphia, especially in her Logan Square neighborhood. She treasured the independence and convenience of city life and the ability to walk to so many of the places she enjoyed. She could often be found volunteering at local events, visiting museums, spending time at the Philadelphia Zoo, enjoying arts and crafts, exploring thrift stores, or simply taking in everything the city had to offer.

She was also a devoted Philadelphia sports fan and faithfully followed the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers.

One of Gayle’s greatest passions was collecting. Over the years, she built an extraordinary collection of memorabilia and collectibles reflecting her many interests. Of all her passions, however, few were as enduring as her love of Star Trek. Gayle had been a devoted Star Trek fan since the 1960s. For her, being a Trekkie was about much more than collecting memorabilia. It opened the door to friendships, travel, conventions, fan gatherings, and experiences that became an important part of her life. She traveled throughout the country, attended Star Trek events and cruises, and was a longtime member of the Shore Leave fan community, attending its conventions in Maryland for decades. Through Star Trek, Gayle developed many lasting friendships with people who shared her enthusiasm, and those relationships and memories meant a great deal to her.

Gayle also had a tremendous love for animals, particularly dogs. Throughout her life, she opened her heart and home to rescued dogs and cared deeply about animals in need. Her compassion for animals was another reflection of the kindness and generosity with which she lived her life.

Although Gayle never married, her life was never without love or family. She treasured her relatives and developed close, lifelong friendships with people who became her chosen family. Gayle was fiercely loyal to those she loved and was always willing to lend a hand, offer support, or simply be there when someone needed her.

Gayle will be remembered as a kind, caring, and generous person who tried to see the good in others. She valued her family and friends deeply and brought enthusiasm and dedication to the people, interests, and causes that mattered to her.

Her sudden passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of those who knew and loved her, and she will be deeply missed.

Gayle is survived by her sister, Linda Kerper (Ruggeri); her brother-in-law, Wayne A. Kerper; her niece, Nancy Beresovoy (Kerper) and Nancy’s husband, Christopher Beresovoy; and her great-nephews, CJ Beresovoy and Jase Beresovoy, along with a circle of treasured lifelong friends who became part of her extended family.

A private service was held on September 17, 2026, with family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gayle’s memory to Morris Animal Refuge https://morrisanimalrefuge.kindful.com in Philadelphia, an organization especially meaningful to Gayle and where she rescued dogs over the years.

Gayle was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and will not be forgotten.
